About Me

YOHAY SPONDER

Born 1982, Givat Yoav

Yohay Sponder was born in 1982 in Givat Yoav and grew up in the Golan Heights, a place where the nearest thing to a comedy club was an argument. His father is the son of Polish Holocaust survivors. His mother's family came from Morocco. That collision, Ashkenazi and Mizrahi, grief and volume, is the raw material of the act.

He served in the Armored Corps. Then he found the Camel Comedy Club and the Comedy Bar in Tel Aviv, and started doing the thing he has now done for over twenty years.

In 2009 he appeared on television for the first time. He built Funny Monday into the night where Israeli comedy happens in English, and along the way built an audience that follows him in two languages without noticing the switch.

He toured Self Loving Jew around the world and sold it out. Now there is a new hour. It is called Genesis, and it is about starting again, which is the only thing this part of the world has ever really done.
